Robinson Crusoe was first published in 1719. Some people believe that it was the first novel in English. The book is a fictional autobiography of the title character, an English castaway, who spends 28 years on a remote tropical island, meeting natives and captives before being rescued. Crusoe leaves England on a sea voyage in September, 1651, against the wishes of his parents. The love for sea voyages makes Robinson undertake adventurous and dangerous voyages till one day he is shipwrecked in a storm and finds his way to a lonely island inhabited by native cannibals. The novel traces Robinsons experiences till he is rescued.
