The Knight and the Moth

The Knight and the Moth is a gothic romantic fantasy novel by American author Rachel Gillig. The story follows Sybil Delling, a Diviner who has spent nine years dreaming of having no dreams. As a foundling girl, Sybil traded a decade of service for a home in the great cathedral of Traum's windswept moors. In her dreams, she receives visions from six unearthly figures known as Omens, allowing her to predict terrible things before they occur. Lords and common folk alike travel across the kingdom to learn their futures by her dreams. Just as Sybil and her fellow Diviners near the end of their service, a mysterious knight arrives at the cathedral. Rodrick, the knight, is rude, heretical, and devilishly handsome, showing no respect for Sybil's visions. However, when Sybil's fellow Diviners begin to vanish one by one, she has no choice but to seek his help. The world outside the cathedral's cloister is fraught with peril, and only a heretic can defeat a god. As much as Sybil would rather avoid Rodrick's dark eyes and sharp tongue, their partnership becomes essential to uncovering the truth behind the disappearances. The novel explores themes of faith, destiny, and the clash between the divine and the heretical, set against a backdrop of a mystical and dangerous kingdom.
